10 Travel Essentials We Wish All Hotels Provide For Free

Avid wayfarers, who are likely to spend more time in hotel rooms than at home, want the same thing: to have everything they could ever need – for free. No, they are not asking for grandiose, world class amenities. They're not asking for a regal treatment from the hotel staff either. Waking up to inexpensive things, like a good 'ol cup of coffee, which would make them feel at home is good enough.

Unfortunately, some hotels and resorts can't even provide the basics. Is a blackout drape for a night owl like me too much to ask? And if they do offer them, you still have to pay extra for them. With the hotel's undeniably steep price, it would be a great relief for their frugal guests if they could provide the essentials, including these 10 things.

Hotel and resort owners, are you listening?

1. Complimentary water bottles

I'm not asking for a personal water dispenser in my room. I'm not asking for pricey brands either. Two to three complimentary bottles of water per day to quench the thirst are good enough. Nobody wants to grab a bottle from a minibar which costs $10.

2. Oral Hygiene Kit

It's common to omit your toothbrush and toothpaste when you travel. With this, it's a holy grail if these oral hygiene essentials are included in every hotel accommodation kit along with other toiletries. If airlines were able to do it, then all hotels should too.

3. Free Wi-fi

Need I say more? In an era where almost everything is electronic and digital-based, connectivity is now considered a basic need. Most hotels do offer free wi-fi in the lobby but chances are they aren't functional. You have to wait for 60 seconds for a single web page to load since you're competing with our guests trying to get online.

4. Easy To Access A/C Unit

During summer months, you want nothing but to crank the thermostat to its coldest just to keep your sanity. At times, you want to turn the heat up and sweat out. Having a decent A/C unit you can easily access (without referring to the manual for remote control instructions) would be nice.

5. Adequate Power Outlets

We love bringing our gadgets to our adventures – phone, camera, laptop, tablet, and another phone, to name a few. While it's not uncommon for tech-savvy travelers to bring extension cords, it'd be delightful if all hotels have more than two functional power sockets for guest use (and if those sockets can be utilized without pulling the sturdy bed out).

6. Decent Luggage Rack

If you're staying at old hotels, there's a great chance some bedbugs and critters lurk inside your luggage rack or shelf. Sometimes, it's a safer bet to leave your luggage on the floor than stock your clothes up inside a suspicious wooden closet. Aside from having them neat and pest-free, an abundant supply of hangers is also perfect.

7. Coffee Machine

Most hotels offer free coffee but wouldn't it be nice if be could bring our favorite coffee and brew it inside the room?

8. Blackout drapes

If you've had a long night and it's 4 am when you finally hit the sack, then the last thing you'd probably want to happen is to see the intense morning sunshine. Some folks aren't morning persons. Some are just sensitive to the light so it would be awesome if blackout drapes are always available upon request.

9. Flat Iron

Some people stay in hotels for work purposes and it's a must for them to look presentable from head to toe. This is where a decent flat iron comes in handy. We want to smoothen those shirt creases so it won't look like it was harshly picked out of a suitcase (when it actually was).

10. En Suite Bathroom

Yes, in some cases, not all hotel rooms include their own bathroom. You have to pay extra for a room with T & B or you have to go to a shared restroom to pee in the middle of the night.
